The Front-End Engineering Team sits within the UK Development & Subsurface organisation and has specific responsibility for delivery of competitive and affordable concepts in support of Shell UK’s growth strategy. The team works closely with the wider Development community and the Project & Engineering teams to ensure efficient project maturation and seamless handover to the Project Delivery organisation, working on oil and gas projects as well as new energy developments.

What’s the role?

Senior Front End Development Engineer serves as the Surface Engineering Lead for a development prospect or project, with exposure often starting pre-exploration/identification and continuing through to the start of FEED, when responsibility is typically handed over to the Project Delivery Organization. Purpose of the role is to develop and define cost competitive, sustainable surface facilities to realise the optimum value of the opportunity for Shell and associated joint venturers.

As a Senior Front End Development Engineer, you will, depending on the size of the opportunity, lead and integrate a multidisciplinary team of Facilities Engineering resources in order to drive competitiveness from opportunity inception through to concept selection. This will be achieved by extensive application of competitiveness tools, standardised solutions, systems engineering, championing low GreenHouse Gas (GHG) technologies, and learning from others. You will set projects up for smooth transition into FEED, Detailed Design and Execution through collaboration with the receiving projects organisation on key strategies and deliverables.

Although this role has no direct reports, you will share your experiences to other members of the team and help embed a learning culture for all.

What we need from you

As Senior Front End Development Engineer and to be successful in this role, you will have:

Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline

Substantial oil and gas industry experience in process, project, or discipline engineering

Broad range of experience covering green- and brownfield as well as on- and offshore projects, delivering integrated engineering solutions in the front-end, working within a multidisciplinary team including: subsurface, wells, brownfield, commercial, projects

Understanding of the risks and integrated relationship between Subsurface, Wells, and Surface solutions

Exposure to leading and integrating through a team of technical professionals, challenging existing designs and ways of working, demonstrating professional curiosity to learn and identifying relevant improvements

Creative thinker with the ability to identify and manage key decisions to be made at the various development stages that improve the overall end-to-end value of the opportunity

Strong leadership, collaboration, communication and integration skills
