SUMMARY 

Sound Quarry Inc.

, a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation is currently seeking a qualified 

Driller/Blaster

 for Drilling and Blasting in Nome, Alaska. The Driller/Blaster will oversee and perform all Drilling and Blasting at various locations, in accordance with all Federal, State and Local rules and regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position, and are

Work with the Quarry Manager to write and maintain a blasting plan that is acceptable to all Federal, State, Local and Company standards. 

Be responsible for precise inventory of all blasting materials onsite at the Quarry, and Maintain accurate files to provide to necessary agencies as required.

Operate and maintain all equipment required in Drilling/Blasting operations.

Work with other employees at the Quarry in the safe and efficient methods of drilling and blasting at the Quarry.

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

Required (Minimum) Qualifications

Must have a valid Driver’s License.

15 years of Drilling/Blasting experience.

Have a current Blasting License. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

Knowledge of Drilling and Blasting equipment safety

Knowledge of Drilling and Blasting equipment maintenance and storage

Ability to set up drilling and blasting patterns according to size of rock being produced.

Ability to work in a composite type crew environment.

Preferred 

Five (5) years of previous rock quarry experience. 

Class A Commercial Driver’s License with applicable endorsements.

Current MSHA and First Aid/CPR certification.

Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; most of time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  

Job is performed outdoors with almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, bio hazardous materials, dirt, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.  

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

No supervisory responsibilities.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS 

As a condition of employment, will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check. Must have reliable transportation to/from work.
